Our Egg Donors at Global Donor Egg Bank

Our egg donors come from diverse ethnic backgrounds and they have been carefully screened and tested extensively before being deemed eligible for donation. Medical and psychological testing according to FDA standards with a thorough background review of genetic, medical, and family related issues are performed to ensure that the donor’s eggs will produce favorable results for our patients.

Only the most qualified and healthiest egg donors are accepted according to the rigorous selection criteria of Global Donor Egg Bank. Each donor’s background and characteristics including education, personal statements and aptitudes are catalogued in her profile and made available for review by intended mothers, thus insuring a close physical match. We provide comprehensive information to our patients to make their selection process as easy and comfortable as possible.

Global Donor Egg Bank conducts an initial phone interview in order to verify basic eligibility requirements such as age, overall health, weight and height. The next step is a face-to-face interview in our office where the egg donor completes a 10 page profile and application along with medical tests including blood level measurements of the egg donor’s FSH, LH, and estradiol blood levels.

A vaginal ultrasound is performed to evaluate the egg donor’s ovaries and follicle count, followed by a complete physical exam to insure compliance with FDA regulations. A psychological evaluation is scheduled with a licensed therapist. Then, our egg donor eligibility committee meets and decides if this donor is a good candidate for the Global Donor Egg Bank donation program.

The preparation for the donor’s egg retrieval and subsequent egg freezing is the same as the process for an in-vitro fertilization cycle (IVF). This includes specific medications to program the donor’s cycle, followed by hormone injections to stimulate the donor’s ovaries and to ripen her follicle eggs sacs.

When the eggs have matured, they are harvested with an ultrasound-guided vaginal ultrasound technique under intravenous sedation. The egg quality is determined by the scientists and only the mature eggs are frozen using our patented egg freezing technology.

Additionally, Global Donor Egg Bank uses a comprehensive panel to screen for specific genetic illnesses that can be transmitted by gene mutations. “COUNSYL” is a specially developed state of the art panel of tests formulated to detect 60+ genetic diseases.

Using a donor’s blood sample, her DNA is amplified and analyzed by a specially designed “reader.” and computer generated report is forwarded to our laboratory. An egg donor whose sample is reported as “positive” will become ineligible to donate her eggs.

Egg Donors Give the Gift of Life

The donor eggs at Global Donor Egg Bank are cryo-preserved and stored securely. By using frozen donor eggs, the recipient can avoid many potential complications and headaches usually associated with locating a fresh egg donor and synchronizing the ovarian cycle of the donor and the intended mother.

This also eliminates the egg donor’s travel costs often incurred by the future parents. All of this equates to reduced costs and savings by up to 50% for the intended parents.
